throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Workshops on Saturdays engage the whole family with activities around the exhibition ‘Rashid Johnson. Sodade’ and the outdoor sculpture trail. Activities involve observation and carving techniques, planting and print-making, and creating artworks using natural materials.
Workshops targeted to children between 3 and 6 are interspersed with those for children aged 6-12.
Screening of ‘Louise Bourgeois: The Spider, the Mistress and the Tangerine’

Screening of ‘Louise Bourgeois: The Spider, the Mistress and the Tangerine,’ a film by Marion Cajori and Amei Wallach. Featuring a series of interviews with the artist from 1993 to 2007, the critically acclaimed film offers an intimate look into Bourgeois’s life and imagination, shaping a powerful portrait of one of the most influential artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Hauser & Wirth Menorca collaborates with Pedra Viva, a benchmark performing arts festival on Menorca, which brings scenic life to the spaces of the art centre. For the last ten years, Pedra Viva has been organising dance performances, classical music concerts and theatre pieces, among many others, in singular outdoor environments. In 2022, Hauser & Wirth will host two performances: the synchronised swimming performance ‘Dragón, descansa en el lecho marino’ (Dragon, rest on the seabed) on 9 September at 8,15 pm; and the contemporary dance performance ‘Pas de Deux’ by Miss Beige and Chevi Muraday on 16 September at 8,15 pm.

Hauser & Wirth Menorca organises four Sunday concerts in collaboration with the local music producer Es Claustre. The concerts on Illa del Rei are free and bring live music to Cantina’s terrace, shaded by the wild olive tree forest. Momi Maigi & Ferran Savall will perform on 18 September, followed by Rita Payés & Kaleidoscope on 2 October, Platano Manush on 16 October and Rut Florit Juaneda on 30 October. All concerts are at 12,30 pm.
Screening of ‘Native Son’, by Rashid Johnson

In connection with the current exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, Rashid Johnson’s ‘Sodade’, we will screen the film directed by the artist himself, ‘Native Son’ (2019). The film is based on the novel of the same name by Richard Wright and distributed by HBO Films.
Compañía Nacional de Danza

The dancer and choreographer Isaac Montllor and principal dancers Kayoko Everhart and Alessandro Riga, from the Spanish National Dance Company, will perform ‘Oblitus’ (6,40 minutes), a dance piece drawing from poems by the Menorcan Ponç Pons. The piece is inspired by movement, the sea and oblivion, and created within the framework of the exhibition ‘Rashid Johnson. Sodade’. It will be resented on 24 September in Hauser & Wirth’s gallery. After the performance, a screening of ‘Hasta el Alba’ by Horacio Alcalá (VOSE, 72 minutes) will take place. The event will be preceded by a master class with Joaquín De Luz which will take place in the morning. In collaboration with 78i Dansa.
Emilia y Pablo with Cranc Illa de Menorca Festival

Hauser & Wirth is proud to collaborate with Cranc Illa de Menorca Festival offering a free concert by Emilia y Pablo. Cranc Festival has brought great variety of music to Menorca during the last six years, and the Chilean duo will perform their closing concert in 2022 on Illa del Rei.
Imma Prieto about Miró’s Ubu

Imma Prieto, Director of Es Baluard Museu, gives the talk ‘The faces of Ubu’ inspired by Joan Miró’s series of artworks around Alfred Jarry’s dictatorial and grotesque character ‘Le Père Ubu’. Miró’s ‘Le Père Ubu’ includes a sculpture currently on view at Hauser & Wirth Menorca; as well as drawing books and the costumes for a theatre piece from the 70s which are exhibited at Es Baluard Museu. Imma Prieto introduces the series and discusses the relevance of Miró and Jarry’s character.
Traditional Seaside Cuisine and Lateen Sailing

We will celebrate traditional seaside cuisine with Fra Roger with a special menu and show cooking on Illa del Rei and a demonstration of traditional lateen sailing by the Amics de la Mar Port – Maó. Hauser & Wirth will donate 1€ to Amics de la Mar Port – Maó per ferry ticket sold from 23 October to 6 November. Collaboration on the occasion of the designation of Menorca as European Region of Gastronomy.

Programme with schools
A dedicated programme for primary and secondary schools runs from September to November. Taking inspiration from the artworks on Illa del Rei, the programme encourages creative learning.
